Take a moment right now and think about a strong leader you know. Someone you truly enjoyed working for. Ask yourself a basic question about this leader. Does she know how to craft a winning strategy? I bet the answer is yes. Strong leaders win. Now think about a weak leader you know well. Someone you did not enjoy following. Ask yourself the same question. Did he select a winning strategy? Your answer probably changed to no. It is difficult to follow someone who does not know how to win. Losing sucks. It always has and always will.

2021 has not been a dull year so far. I am already a little car sick from all the ups and downs.

To sum up 2021 so far in a single word — weird.

I know, not the most eloquent choice. You probably understand what I mean.

I think we all have high hopes for this year. I know that I do.

Still hard to tell how 2021 will play out, especially with all the weirdness going on, and I am not even going to talk about anything political.

We passed weird a few exits ago on the national political…

2021 has been a tough year so far

For some reason, I thought that things would magically improve this year. They have not.

In fact, it feels like things may be getting worse — no progress.

Think about what happened last month at the National mall — a riot that spilled into the halls of congress.

That whole scene was crazy.

2020 was full of surprises for all of us. I doubt anyone anticipated what happened last year.

I certainly did not. How hard 2020 would end up did not really sink in for me until around April of last year.

I spent the rest of the year trying to keep my head above water. I cannot complain many people had a tougher year than me.

Nonetheless, I want 2021 to be a better you for me. I bet that you do as well.

2021 needs to be a better year for all of us

2020 was a punch to the gut for most of us. I doubt anyone finished the year and said that was an awesome year.

Some things perhaps went better for you. While other parts of your life were derailed during 2020.

Personally, 2020 was a mixed bag for me — some good and a little bad. I cannot complain many people had a tougher year than me.

None the less, I want 2021 to be a better you for me. I bet that you do as well.

2020 forced all of us to make a lot of adjustments. I doubt anyone finished the year in the exact destination they planned to this past year.

Some things perhaps went better for you. While other parts of your life were derailed during 2020.

Personally, I expected to get engaged in 2020. I did! Kim and I decided to get married which was an even better result.

On the other hand, we planned multiple trips for 2020. Almost all of them were canceled.

Martin Luther King, Jr. is a personal hero of mine. I believe MLK is one of the greatest leaders America ever produced. His name belongs among other American titans like Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and Ike Eisenhower. I admire MLK for many reasons. Here are five compelling reasons all people should admire him, and celebrate his life today.

2020 was a rough year for all of us. The world seems to be on fire right now.

For some, it was the worst year of your life. 2020 may have kicked your ass. It certainly did a number on me and my family.

My heart goes out to anyone who lost a loved one to COVID.

Perhaps you lost your job, your business, or are simply struggling to keep your head above water.

I hope that all of us have a better year in 2021.

My goal-setting process for 2021

I am implementing a new approach to blogging this year — video first, followed by the written text.

In the past, I would write out the entire blog which served as a script for my videos. Moving forward I will record the video first using a simple outline.

Next, I will edit the video and transcribe the script.

It is similar to how some bands write their music, so I thought it might be useful to give it a try this year. Something different for 2021.

Let’s get on with it — here is how to start the new year…

Recently I was asked at work to share my perspective as a veteran. The presentation I gave described the most important lesson I learned serving with paratroopers. It received a fair amount of positive feedback. Therefore, I thought it would be useful to share the content here.

This video includes the presentation I gave at work.

My family is full of paratroopers

I spent over a decade serving as an Officer in the US Army. I learned a lot in the Army, especially during my first tour with the 82nd Airborne Division. The division was created in World War I. It is a famous unit with…
