Five reasons I love visiting London

There was a big football game in London last weekend. England did not win — tough loss. I bet the pubs were packed before and afterward with crazy fans. Here are five reasons I love visiting the capital city of England.

Reason #1 to visit London — Sites

I have visited London multiple times. There is a ton to see and do there.

Start with the royal sites like Buckingham Palace. Tour beautiful churches like St. Paul’s cathedral.

London is actually an ancient city and includes other old sites such as London Tower built by William the Conquerer over a century ago.

Be sure to see Big Ben and the House of Parlament. The last time I visited we were there for multiple days and were never bored.

Reason #2 — Language

Traveling in Europe can be difficult if you have no idea what the people around you are saying.

They speak English in London. Sure — it is the Queen’s English which is different than American English.

But, it is easy to get around and understand what is going on.

If it is your first time going to Europe, London may be a great place to start. The culture shock will not be as jarring because you will at least know what people are saying.

Reason #3 — Pubs

London is packed with pubs. An excellent way to learn about a neighborhood is to visit the local watering hole and hang out.

There are fun historic pubs like the Anchor on the Thames and others scattered all over the city.

No better way to spend an afternoon than drinking a few pints of beer at a local pub.

We ate many meals in pubs like the Anchor.

Reason #4 — Museums

London is full of great museums. There are art museums, history museums, science museums, and more.

Even if you are not a museum person make sure you visit a few while visiting.

Even the kids enjoyed visiting the museums.

Reason #5 — The Tube

In America, we call it the subway. Here they call it the tube.

This city is large and really spread out. Use the tube to get around the city.

It is an efficient way to move from point to point in this large capital.

We used the tube many times while visiting.

Practical tip for your visit — don’t lose your pounds

London can be expensive. I mean really expensive.

Do some research focused on where you will stay, the places you will eat, museum passes, and other ways to avoid wasting money while there.

If you don’t pay attention you will lose a lot of pounds, and I am not talking about the pounds around your waist. The ones in your wallet.

Touring sites like Westminster Abbey can be pricey.

Three quick questions about visiting London

  1. What is my favorite place to visit in London — Hyde Park. Great place for kids.
  2. What is my favorite site in London — The Tower. Full of history and stories.
  3. What is my favorite pub in London — Churchill Arms. Lovely pub near Notting Hill.
Fun pub to drink a pint.
